  74.        2.4.1  _I_f__Y_o_u__a_r_e__R_u_n_n_i_n_g__a__N_e_t_s_c_a_p_e__1_._1__o_r__1_._1_._1__W_e_b__S_e_r_v_e_r
  75.        If your system is running a Netscape 1.1 or 1.1.1 server,
  76.        you need to make a few changes to the server setup to enable
  77.        Out Box and Whats New to work through the Netscape server.
  78.        If you are unfamiliar with how to configure your Netscape
  79.        server, contact the person who usually configures the
  80.        server. More informaton is available in the Netscape
  81.        Commerce and Communications Servers Administrator's Guide,
  82.        Chapter 1, Installing the server, Section 2, Using the
  83.        Server Manager. If installed, this book is accessible by
  84.        selecting Online Books from the Help menu on the toolchest.

  86.        Start the Netscape Server Manager by going to the URL
  87.        http://YourServerName:AdminPort/ (e.g. http://host1:8080/).
  88.        Type your administrator name and password when prompted by
  89.        Netscape.

  91.        1. Scroll to the section "CGI and Server Parsed HTML" and
  92.        select "Specify a directory that will contain CGI programs
  93.        only"

  95.           +o Type "cgi-bin" in the first text field.

  141.             Document Root of the Netscape Server, create one. You
  142.             can create this directory using "dirview" or by typing
  143.             "mkdir full-path-of-document-root/images" in a shell.
  144.             You can determine the full path of the document root
  145.             for your Netscape Server by clicking on the "Document
  146.             Config" link in the Server Manager.

  148.           +o Copy all files in /var/www/httpd/htdocs/images to this
  149.             directory. For example if you have the settings above
  150.             you can do this by typing "cp /var/www/htdocs/images/*
  151.             /usr/ns-home/htdocs/images" in a shell.

  154.        5. Note: You have two choices in Step 5. Please do only ONE
  155.               of 5(a) OR (b).

  157.        5(a). If you want the machines default home page to be the
  158.        Outbox generated home page:

  160.        Note:  If you use this approach, you can still add your own
  161.               content to the Outbox generated home page by editing
  162.               the file "/var/www/htdocs/index.html".

  166.           +o Click on the "Home Page" button to select a different
  167.             home page for the machine and type
  168.             "/var/www/htdocs/index.html" in the text field next to
  169.             it.

  174.        5(b). If you want your machines default home page to
  175.        continue to be the one you currently have, but would like to
  176.        access the Outbox generated page by a new name, say

  182.             corresponding URL for your Outbox generated home page
  183.             will be http://your-machine-name/Outbox.html. You can
  184.             replace "Outbox.html" by whatever name you choose.

  234.        You can now use Out Box to publish files on your home page
  235.        and view the Whats New information on your system.

  238.        2.4.2  _I_f _y_o_u _w_e_r_e _p_r_e_v_i_o_u_s_l_y _r_u_n_n_i_n_g _a _N_e_t_s_c_a_p_e _S_e_r_v_e_r _o_n
  239.        _t_h_i_s _m_a_c_h_i_n_e:  If you were previously running a Netscape
  240.        Server on this machine and have removed this software from
  241.        it, you need to do the following to enable Out Box and Whats
  242.        New:
  243.  
  244.        1. Open a shell window by choosing "Unix Shell" from the
  245.        Desktop toolchest.
  246.  
  247.        2. Log in as root by typing "su" at the shell prompt. Type
  248.        in the root password if you have one.
  249.  
  250.        3. Remove the Netscape Server config files by typing "rm
  251.        /var/config/netsite /var/config/ns_httpd" at the shell
  252.        prompt.

  272.        2.4.3  _I_f__y_o_u__a_r_e__R_u_n_n_i_n_g__a__N_e_t_s_c_a_p_e__1_._0__S_e_r_v_e_r  If you are
  273.        running a Netscape 1.0 Web Server, there is a new release
  274.        (version 1.1.1) of the server. Silicon Graphics, Inc.
  275.        recommends that you upgrade to this release.

  278.        Note:  Outbox and Whats New will not work with the 1.0
  279.               release of the server. If you don't want to upgrade
  280.               your server, you can remove the "outbox", "webserver"
  281.               and "whatsnew" products on your system.

  284.        2.4.4  _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _o_f _a _N_e_t_s_c_a_p_e _1._1._1 _S_e_r_v_e_r _o_n _a _m_a_c_h_i_n_e
  285.        _r_u_n_n_i_n_g _O_u_t_b_o_x:  The Outbox server uses port 80, which is
  286.        the default for the HTTP protocol.  This prevents Netscape
  287.        from binding to this port during installation. To install a
  288.        Netscape 1.1.1 Server on a machine running Outbox, follow
  289.        this order of installation.
  290.  
  291.        1. Install the Netscape software using "swmgr" or "inst".
  292.  
  293.        2. Become root in a shell and type "chkconfig ns_httpd on".
  294.  
  295.        3. Reboot the machine, and the Outbox server will be
  296.        automatically turned off.  Outbox will be disabled till you
  297.        follow the instructions above to enable it with a Netscape
  298.        server.

  301.        2.5  _T_o__t_u_r_n__o_f_f__O_u_t_b_o_x_:

  303.        To turn outbox off, for example on a secure system, follow
  304.        the following instructions:

  307.         1. Open a shell window by choosing "Unix Shell" from the
  308.        Desktop toolchest.
  309.  
  310.        2. Log in as root by typing "su" at the shell prompt. Type
  311.        in the root password if you have one.

  313.        3. Type "chkconfig outbox off" and reboot your machine.

  339.             write and execute priviledge to all users). You can
  340.             change the permissions on this directory to be more
  341.             restrictive.

  343.           +o Information about the users, machine configuration and
  344.             some user files are accessible to others on the same
  345.             network.  You can stop this by disabling Outbox
  346.             completely. To do this follow the instructions below.
